During a recent work trip to Bristol, I stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Bristol North for a one-night stopover. Conveniently located just off the M5 and close to my office, it turned out to be a practical choice that balanced comfort, accessibility, and Hilton’s signature warm welcome (yes, including the cookie!).
The hotel sits in a great spot for business travellers like myself, with easy access to key transport links and only a short drive from Bristol city centre if you’re looking to explore a bit after work. While my stay was brief, it offered everything I needed for a productive and comfortable overnight visit.
Room Comfort: Superior King Upgrade
Thanks to my Hilton Gold status, I was pleasantly upgraded to a Superior King Room for the night. The room was spacious and well laid out, offering plenty of room to unwind after a day of travel and meetings. While not particularly flashy or unique in design, it had everything you’d expect from a reliable Hilton stay.
The bed was large and comfortable, the decor neutral and modern, and everything was spotlessly clean. A desk area was available for a bit of evening laptop time, and the room included the usual touches like a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities, and a few upgraded toiletries in the bathroom.

Food & Drink: Relaxed Vibes and a Decent Breakfast
In the evening, I stopped by the hotel bar for a quick drink — a complimentary perk for Hilton Gold members, which was a pleasant surprise and something you don’t see offered very often these days. The bar had a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, with TVs showing the Champions League, which made it a nice spot to unwind among fellow guests catching the match.
While I didn’t try the evening menu, I did have breakfast at the restaurant the following morning. It was your typical hotel buffet breakfast — nothing extravagant, but it had all the essentials covered. From hot options to pastries and fruit, I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything. Solid start to the day.

Health Club: Small But Functional
I managed to visit the gym twice during my short stay — once in the evening and once early in the morning. While the space is relatively small, it had enough equipment for a solid workout, and I never had to wait to use any machines regardless of the time.
Next to the gym is a swimming pool, which looked inviting, though I didn’t get the chance to use it. One slightly odd detail was the towel situation — gym towels weren’t available, and instead, guests were offered full-sized bath towels for workouts. Not a deal-breaker, but definitely an unusual touch that stood out.
Overall, my stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Bristol North was a smooth and comfortable one. It ticked all the boxes for a work-related overnight visit — convenient location, clean and spacious room, friendly service, and a few nice Hilton perks along the way.
While nothing about the hotel felt particularly standout or luxurious, it offered solid value and a relaxed atmosphere, especially for business travellers or anyone needing easy access to the M5 or the north side of Bristol. I’d happily stay again if work brings me back to the area — especially for the reliable comfort and those little touches that Hilton often gets right.
