Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya All-Inclusive Resort promises a luxurious beachfront escape, and at first glance, it certainly delivers. Nestled along the stunning Caribbean coastline, the resort boasts a breathtaking location, modern and spacious rooms, and an impressive number of swimming pools spread across the vast property. With its sleek design and well-maintained grounds, the hotel makes a great first impression, setting the stage for a relaxing getaway.
However, while the setting was idyllic, the experience wasn’t entirely seamless. During our week-long stay for some much-needed winter sun, we found the service to be consistently slow, and the dining options didn’t quite live up to expectations. Despite the resort’s beautiful surroundings and comfortable accommodations, the inconsistent service and underwhelming restaurants left us feeling that Hilton Tulum didn’t fully deliver on the premium all-inclusive experience it aims to offer.
A Beautiful but Remote Escape
Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya enjoys a truly stunning location, offering guests a perfect blend of coastal beauty and lush jungle surroundings. Situated along a pristine stretch of beach, the resort feels wonderfully secluded, making it an ideal spot for those looking to unwind away from the crowds. The natural scenery is a highlight, with breathtaking ocean views on one side and dense tropical greenery on the other, creating a serene and picturesque atmosphere.
That said, getting there is no easy feat. The resort is quite remote, and after a long-haul flight, the journey from Cancun Airport can feel exhausting. It took us around an hour and a half to reach the hotel, but the return trip was even worse—due to roadworks and early afternoon traffic, it stretched to a frustrating three-hour drive. This is something to keep in mind, especially for those with early or long flights. While the isolation adds to the resort’s charm, it also means that once you’re there, you’re pretty much committed to staying on-site unless you’re prepared for long trips into town.

Spacious Comfort with a Tranquil Jungle View
The rooms at Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya live up to the brand’s standards—spacious, modern, and impeccably clean. Ours featured a comfortable bed, stylish decor, and a well-stocked mini-bar with soft drinks, beers, and snacks replenished daily. The room provided everything needed for a relaxing stay, maintaining the level of quality you’d expect from a Hilton resort.
We had a jungle-view room, which didn’t seem particularly exciting at first, but it quickly became one of our favorite spots. Each morning, we enjoyed a quiet coffee on the balcony, watching the mist rise over the endless greenery. In the evenings, it was the perfect place to unwind with a drink, taking in the peaceful surroundings. While it may not have the immediate “wow” factor of an ocean view, the jungle scenery brought a sense of calm that made our stay even more enjoyable.

Plenty of Pools, a Beach with a Different Feel
Hilton Tulum offers a beachfront setting, but the beach itself may not be the highlight of the resort. Due to the area’s frequent winds, the waters can be quite wavy, though wave breakers have been installed to create a calmer, lagoon-like area. While this setup makes swimming more manageable, it does change the natural feel of the beach. If you’re expecting powdery sand and perfectly still turquoise waters, you might be a little disappointed. That said, we still enjoyed spending time by the beach, relaxing under the sun and taking in the ocean views.
On the poolside, the resort truly excels, with multiple pools spread across the vast property. Almost every cluster of buildings has its own pool, meaning you’re never far from one. Some have a nearby bar or offer table service, adding to the convenience. While the pools were generally enjoyable, there were some inconsistencies—temperatures varied noticeably between different pools, and some jacuzzis weren’t fully functional, either lacking warm water or with jets that didn’t work. Despite these minor issues, the variety of swimming areas provided plenty of options for lounging, cooling off, and enjoying the resort’s surroundings.

Dining Options: Repetitive and Underwhelming
One of the more disappointing aspects of our stay at Hilton Tulum was the dining experience. The main buffet restaurant, which we tried multiple times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, felt extremely repetitive. Breakfast and lunch, in particular, lacked variety, and there were limited options for kids. While dinner at the buffet featured a different theme each night, the selection still felt uninspired, with certain dishes appearing every evening regardless of the theme.
Beyond the buffet, we dined at both the Italian restaurant and the steakhouse. The Italian spot was slightly better, offering decent dishes, but nothing that stood out as particularly special. The steakhouse was also just okay, but the lack of a dedicated kids’ menu and the somewhat unwelcoming service left us underwhelmed.
As for the bars around the resort, they were hit or miss. We found the execution of cocktails to be quite poor, often lacking balance or consistency. The best chance of getting a well-made drink seemed to be when the bar wasn’t too busy, but even then, the quality was inconsistent. While the resort offers plenty of dining and drinking spots, the overall experience fell short of what we had hoped for in an all-inclusive resort.

A Well-Equipped Gym for a Morning Workout
For those who like to stay active while traveling, Hilton Tulum’s gym is a solid option. I visited daily and found it to be spacious, well-maintained, and stocked with plenty of cardio machines, which suited my routine perfectly. In the morning hours, there was no trouble finding an available treadmill or exercise bike, making for a stress-free workout. While the gym doesn’t offer any particularly scenic views due to its ground-floor location, it provides everything you need for a good session in a clean and comfortable setting.

Family-Friendly, but Not Without Flaws
Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya is generally a family-friendly resort, offering a few dedicated areas for kids to enjoy. One of the highlights was the splash pool, featuring mini slides and plenty of space for little ones to have fun in the water. Our kids loved spending time there, and having a small cantina nearby serving ice cream and churros was a nice touch, making it a great spot for families to take a break and cool off.
The kids’ club, however, wasn’t as much of a hit. While we were happy to sign our children up, they were disappointed to learn they couldn’t stay together due to their age differences. They still gave it a try but lost interest rather quickly, finding the activities underwhelming. While the resort does cater to families, the experience at the kids’ club didn’t quite match the engaging atmosphere we’ve seen at other family-oriented resorts.

Service: The Biggest Letdown of Our Stay
While Hilton Tulum impresses with its beautiful setting and well-maintained facilities, the service left much to be desired. Throughout our stay, we experienced repeated issues with slow and inattentive service, particularly around the pools and restaurants. At the pool near Casa 5-6, for example, getting a waiter’s attention was a constant struggle, with staff appearing to prioritize certain guests while others—like us—were left waiting for hours. On more than one occasion, we placed orders that never arrived, and even when we attempted to order directly at the bar, we were turned away with conflicting information on where to go.
Beyond the dining and bar service, interactions with staff often felt indifferent rather than welcoming. A simple request for a late checkout, which would have made a huge difference for our family given our long-haul flight, was dismissed outright without even checking availability. As frequent Hilton guests, we expected a level of attentiveness that simply wasn’t there. While the resort itself has a lot to offer, the poor service unfortunately overshadowed much of our experience, making it the biggest disappointment of our stay.
In conclusion, Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya All-Inclusive Resort offers a stunning location, spacious rooms, and plenty of amenities that make it a great choice for those looking to unwind in a beautiful setting. The beach and pools provide opportunities for relaxation, and the resort’s family-friendly facilities are ideal for those traveling with kids. However, despite the appealing features, our stay was marred by significant service issues that left a lasting negative impression.
From the slow and inconsistent service at the pools and bars to the underwhelming dining options, the lack of attention to detail and guest needs was the resort’s biggest flaw. While Hilton Tulum has great potential, especially with its stunning surroundings and expansive grounds, it ultimately didn’t live up to the expectations we had for a luxury all-inclusive experience.
Would we return? Maybe, but only if the service improves and the overall experience aligns more with the quality Hilton is known for. It’s a beautiful resort with a lot of promise, but the current level of service makes it difficult to wholeheartedly recommend without reservations.
